Cash Back vs. Travel Rewards Cards
Which rewards type earns you more depends on how you spend and travel.

Rewards cards come in two flavors: cash back and travel points. Both can be valuable.
Cash back
Simple and flexible. Flat-rate cards earn around 2% on everything, while category cards earn more in areas like groceries or gas.
Travel rewards
Points and miles can be worth more than a cent each when transferred to airline and hotel partners, but they take more effort.
How to decide
- Travel at least twice a year? Consider travel rewards.
- Want simplicity? Go with cash back.
- Pay any annual fee only if you earn more than it costs.
Whatever you choose, pay your balance in full each month, since interest wipes out rewards quickly.
